We are giving away a pair of tickets to the Seattle Graphic Artists Guild’s Graphic Novel Panel this weekend at the Seattle Design Center. The panel runs from 1-3:30pm and you will also be able to attend the after party from 4:30-6pm after-party at Fantagraphics Bookstore!

The Graphic Artists Guild is holding the 3nd annual Graphic Novel Panel January 26, 2013 at the Seattle Design Center with an after-party at Fantagraphics Bookstore.

* Sign up for Make Your Own Comic in 90 Minutes in the morning workshop.
* Learn the ins and outs of the Graphic Novel in the afternoon.
* Party in the evening at Fantagraphics Bookstore.

The Line-Up:

Mark Monlux, our Moderator for the third year, is an award-winning freelance illustrator and author of “The Comic Critic Presents Seldom Seen Films.” http://www.markmonlux.blogspot.com

Ellen Forney- She won a 2012 Genius award from the “Stranger.” Her memoir, “Marbles,” is a current New York Times bestseller 

and she teaches comics at Cornish College of the Arts. Is there anything that girl can’t do? http://www.ellenforney.com

Michel Gagné- His creative work can be seen in “The Iron Giant”, “Osmosis Jones” and “Ratatouille.” He has written and illustrated “The Saga of Rex” and “Insanely Twisted Rabbits.” Look for “ZED: A Cosmic Tale” out in Feb. 2013. http://www.gagneint.com

The Schedule:

  • 10:30-noon Make Your Own (mini) Comic: In 90 minutes participants are challenged to make their own 8-page mini graphic novel. Cartoonist David Lasky will guide you through the book-constructing and storytelling process. Supplies and basic drawing tips will be provided. Drawing skills are not all necessary; the only prerequisite is a desire to communicate through the medium of comics.
  • 12-1 PM Lunch Break-Bring your own or order a box lunch (must preorder).
  • 1-3:30 PM Graphic Novel Panel Discussion - How do you get started? What jobs are available in the comics industry? What does it take to create and publish a graphic novel? So many experts in one room!
  • 4:30-6 PM After Party for all attendees Fantagraphics Bookstore. Books available for purchase and signing
